1. Do I need an agent to submit?
No. We also welcome both experienced and new authors.
2. Can I submit multiple manuscripts at one time?
Yes. We are extremely interested in books in a series right now, as well as authors who have more than one book or even in more than one genre.
3. Will you accept nonfiction or poetry?
Possibly, we are open to new ideas and are open to hearing from the talented authors that are out there. It would be best to query us with your idea, and we can go from there.
4. Will you accept gay/lesbian stories?
Yes! We think those types of stories are just as sexy as a heterosexual one. They don’t need to be just erotica either.
5. Are you only accepting romance?
No. A majority of our books will be romantic in nature, but we are committed to offering a place where authors can showcase their skill in all genres.
6. Do you accept erotica? What types of erotica are you looking for?
Yes!!! We love erotica! We are interested in all sub genres, and all types of characters. Our favorites for right now are: BDSM, Ménage, Cowboy/Western, Historical, Gay-Lesbian, and what ever else your creative brains can come up with.
7. What other genres are you looking for?
We want good books, simple as that. Good thrillers that surprises us at the end. Humor books that can make us laugh out loud, or a paranormal that isn’t like all the rest. Our focus is not on a formula, or a structured plan. LazyDay Publishing is looking for the future of storytelling, and we are willing to bend in whatever direction is required to get us there.
8.Do you offer an advance?
No. Our contract is royalty based. If we make money, you make money.
9. Are there any fees, hidden charges, or any cost to the author?
No. We are not a vanity press, a scam or a rip off. We understand that because we are a new publishing house that you need to do your homework. You should always do your research. We are a legitimate business, and legitimate business owners. We own other businesses as well, and our entrepreneur minds have led us in this direction.
10. Will my book go to print?
Our focus will be on digital release first. We aren’t ruling out print, but it will depend on sales, hype and all the stars lining up. We aren’t going to lie or sugar coat this. We are focused on each book making money. If we feel printing your book will make more money…then print it will be. If your number one focus is getting your book to print, then we may not be the publishers for you.
11. Will the books be sold through 3rd party distributors?
Yes! We strongly feel that this is the direction of publishing. We will utilize all successful avenues offered.
12. What format will the books be in?
The format will be in whatever is required by 3rd party distributors.
13. What are you looking for in an author?
We are looking for someone we can work closely with. We see this as a partnership, and so therefore we need to like you. Yes, we want a good book, but we also want a driven, career focused individual to join our team. No divas, paranoid crazy “artists”, intellectual snobs or lazy authors allowed. We do mean that in the nicest way.
14. Do I have to send in a synopsis?
We almost want to say no, since we know how most authors hate them with a passion. But we do need them for organizing purposes only. We will base our decision on if your book is right for us, by the manuscript only.
15. Will my book be edited and copyedited?
Yes. Your book will go through the same process that any publishing house goes through. With that said, we do expect a polished manuscript. Three strikes you're out is how we start reading. If in the first couple pages there are basic mistakes, we will stop reading. Your manuscript should be your very best foot forward. This tells us how professional and serious the author really is.
16. How long will it take to get a response?
We are quoting 4-6 weeks. We hope to be even quicker than that. You may get a response right away if something in your subject line or query letter catches our eye. We understand that the waiting game is one of the toughest things for an author to go through, so we are going to focus our efforts on not having you wait too long.
17. If I get rejected, can I submit again?
Yes. If you go back and rework your manuscript, it may become ready for another try. Never give up. This is your “baby” after all.
18. Can I provide my own cover art?
We have our own staff and freelance artists that we prefer to use, but we understand how an author wants some control in the look of the book. It would be best to talk to your editor about options once your book has been accepted.
19. If my manuscript has been accepted by you, do I have to go through the submitting process again?
No! Once you become an author of LazyDay Publishing, we consider you a member of our team. Although there is no guarantee your next manuscript will be published, we will look forward to book number two, three and so on. Your future books will still have to go through the same rigorous editing process, but you no longer have to wait in a huge pile of submissions.
20. How soon after acceptance will my book be released?
Our launch date will be December 1, 2010. Some of the books will become available at that time. After our launch, the time period could be a couple of months or even a year. This will depend on scheduling, genres, and other releases from the same author.
21. What types of manuscripts have a better chance of getting published right now?
Word count of 50k and more is going to be a major focus of ours. We are looking for books that are part of a series, but can still stand alone. Romance and erotica are genres that have a better chance of getting accepted. We are also looking for that great book that is a compilation of blog entries from a popular blog site. Think Tucker Max! But mostly we are looking for a manuscript that stands out, no matter what genre it may fall under.
22. Why should I choose LazyDay Publishing?
There are some publishers and agents who tend to lose sight that storytelling is an art. Authors are truly artists. LazyDay Publishing will be built on combining our expertise in business, sales, marketing, financial backing and networking with the author’s ability to create an excellent story.
